about us.

Fostering Futures of North Carolina is a Christian based organization located in central North Carolina. Our goal is to assist kids that are about to be or have aged out of the foster care system. It is our belief that in "bridging the gap" and continuing to offer support, mentorship, and resources available to us that we will be able to guide, mentor, and assist these young individuals to truly chase their dreams by giving them the foundation and tools to do so.

A big shoutout to Allison from Durham Co. who took the time to drive all the way to Burlington to donate these gently used and new pieces of luggage / bags. Surprisingly, a lot of kids (not just teens) don't have adequate storage needs for their items when in transition. Not only was her donation a blessing, but as we were standing there, a passerby stopped to ask about the luggage, and after finding out about our cause, they have luggage they would like to donate as well. 🫶🏻 🌳

For this month's life skill class....we decided to take a pause from learning and celebrate these kiddos. We have 3 graduating high school, 1 prepping to take their GED test, 1 won an art award, and the rest were just happy to be almost out of school for the year, so lots of reasons to celebrate. While our goal was to celebrate them and take a pause from learning, I think they actually taught us a lesson last night. Since we have limited time with them, we're always focused on the next skill or lesson to teach, helping them find scholarships, housing, transportation, or job applications. We tend to forget they're still kids, kids on the cusp of adulthood, but still kids nonetheless. So we watched them eat hotdogs and cake, play cornhole, swing on the swing set, spin around in whatever device/contraption you'd find at a playground. We watched them laugh, give hugs, and catch up with each other. Kids with their guard down, kids not zoned into their phones, For the first time in 2{ish} years, we watched them be kids. 🫶🏻🌳

We've been busy this past month.

1st 📷: We had so much fun at April's life skills class we almost forgot to snap a picture. This picture was taken after most everyone had left. April's class consisted of continuing the journey of introspection by learning about the 5 Love languages. This was a continuation of classes on learning about ourselves and creating the future self we strive to be. We also continued on with car basics 101. This time the teens learned how to do an oil change thanks to Mr. Chase.

2nd 📷: FFNC participated in the Alamance Community College resource fair. We met with over 100+ students and other local organizations.

3rd 📷: Stephanie and Kait (behind the cam) attended and participated at the Made for More Womens conference at Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church. We were overwhelmed with the support and fellowship and interest shown to FFNC. We also loved the amazing message and testimony the guest speaker had. We look forward to attending next years conference again and will share details as they're released.

Behind every scholarship awarded, is a story of resilience, hope, perseverance, and dreams. We are excited to announce and present our scholarship class for the 2025-2026 school year. Both recipients were awarded the Renee M. Snyder Collegiate Scholarship, and today we honor their incredible spirit and determination in overcoming the unique, tragic, and unfortunate circumstances they were faced with. Despite it all, these teens have been stellar examples in and outside the classroom and continue to inspire those around them, including us. Both teens have chosen to pursue degrees in high school education in music and chemistry to pay homage to the subjects and teachers that helped shape them. Congrats SJ and JM! 🌳

With April's life-skill class next week, here is a throwback from last month's life-skills class. In March, we split the group up based on interest. Some of the group learned some tire basics thanks to Mr. Chase. The rest of the group played the board game LIFE in which we used the board game in real-life applications and scenarios to teach them about life choices and the impact it can have on your goals / life-path.

Last night, FFNC hosted its monthly life-skills class. To continue on with our class from January on vision boards and goal setting, for this month, we focused on goal accountability, the art and impact of journaling, and positive self-talk. FFNC provided each teen with their own journal, motivational stickers, and pens and had them reflect and journal on 3 prompts given to them. We we're excited to get to meet 4 new faces and to see 2 returning after missing the last 2-3 classes. With last night's attendance numbers, our classes will show an estimated growth of about 57%. 🌳

The Lord said, write the vision, and that's just what we did. Tonight, we held our monthly class with the teens, and the theme was all about vision boards and setting goals. One of our goals this year is to be their accountability partners and help them achieve the goals and visions they've set for themselves. FFNC's scholarship application window is open. All applicants must currently be either in foster care, in a kinship arrangement, or recently adopted out AND must reside in NC or be placed with NC Agency. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2025. FFNC currently offers two scholarships. One scholarship is applicable for any 4-year collegiate program. Our other scholarship is for any 2-year/Associate, Trades program, or professional certification. 🌳

And that's a wrap on 2024. It was a year of pivoting, growing, grinding, but, most importantly, serving. There is still a lot that we want to do and big goals we still want to meet, but our priority will always be these teens and their needs.

To every single soul that served the organization whether it be our board members, all of those who volunteered, our benefactors, our Christmas Cheer Angels who stepped up big time in such short notice, we just want to say THANK YOU!!! There is so much behind the scenes of FFNC that we don't post about, honestly, because it's not the priority or we forget. This is just a snapshot of the last 3 weeks, specifically where we've provided tutoring and assistance with job applications, transportation, and meals. We are heartbroken and devastated to see the effects that Hurricane Helene has had on our beautiful mountains, the communities, and the wonderful people of western North Carolina. Like so many of you, western North Carolina holds such a special place for us personally and as an organization. It’s where the roots of the concept of FFNC took hold, and it’s where we retreat every year for inspiration, focus, and collaboration as we try to plan for the year ahead. We’re very aware that our momentary loss doesn’t remotely compare to the devastation this storm brought and means to the people that live there, the lives ultimately lost, and the displacement this will cause for the foreseeable future. We will continue to pray for everyone impacted by Hurricane Helene, their families, the first responders, emergency management teams, civilians, volunteers, and organizations already in place and ready to assist. We especially pray for everyone’s safety, for road access, and that communications are restored so that recovery efforts can continue and further assistance can be provided. We pray for the reunification of families displaced or separated. FFNC, its team, and community, will do its part to help with provisions, aid, and manpower once clearance has been given. WNC is NC and together we will rise up, restore, and rebuild because we are #OneCarolina and we are #CarolinaStrong. 🌳

We're so excited to announce our 1st scholarship recipient of the 2024-2025 year. This young lady is super ambitious, while being in high school she was also dual enrolled with a local college working towards licensure as an esthetician. She is pursuing cosmetology at Leon's Beauty School and has dreams of opening her own salon that specializes in color and curls. She also hopes it will become a place where she can share her love for Jesus and ministry. 🌳

FFNC is proud to partner with Living Free Ministries as our Q3 Blessing It Forward community partner organization. As our Q3 community partner, Living Free Ministries will receive 10% of our Q3 donations and any items raised from our "Living Needs Drive". Their ministry focuses on the regeneration of men and women from life-controlling substances, addictions, and issues in a Christ-centered approach and community. These areas of focus are one of the most prominent vulnerabilities among teens aging out of foster care where statistics show that 1 out of 2 teens aging out will develop a substance abuse dependency. Since this is a vulnerability point that is currently outside of FFNC's scope, it's still essential for us to try to help where we can in those areas. Creating the Blessing It Forward program is our way of helping in those areas of need. Last year, we had the absolute honor and privilege to sit down with the ladies of Mary's House at Living Free where they prepared lunch, gave us a tour, and shared with us their stories and testimonies of what Living Free has done for them, and for some of them that included experiences with foster care. We're excited and blessed to continue this partnership in supporting the work and ministry of Living Free Ministries as they continue to help others find their hope and healing in Christ.

One way we can help them is by collecting some much-needed items that Living Free has curated for us. These items are important to their daily program and operations as well as their individual journeys. The drive will conclude, on September 30th. It's not our first day or week of school, but boy, it was good to be back on schedule with our monthly like skills classes at DSS. We may have seemed MIA for a bit, but we're still catching up from our summer Sabbatical and have been focused on our upcoming FALLelujah Festival (we hope to see some of you there) that we haven't had time to post many updates lately. We're starting with this month's class that we hosted this past Monday, led by our amazing secretary and board member, Katelyn Drakos. The focus was on job interview preparation and mock interviews. Katelyn's career in recruiting for a well-known and loved social media platform made her the perfect teacher for this month's class and the last class of our professional development series. So far, she's taught the power of networking, especially through platforms like LinkedIn, and provided resume coaching. In this most recent class, she covered the interview process, like how to answer job interview questions, assessing your skill set and experience, assessing potential employers and the work-culture, and the overalls dos and don'ts of the job interview experience.

Our team has a couple of assignments now to further assist these teens with employment opportunities. We're looking for anyone with connections to potential employers in the retail and / or food industries that are truly hiring. 🌳

Last night, we held our monthly life skills class. This month's topic was "How to Write a Resume?" led by one of our very own, Katelyn D. This is the first class of our Professional Development series where our other classes will cover topics like utilizing LinkedIn and hosting mock job interviews. Did you know that in addition to teaching these important life skills, FFNC also provides meals at each class. Any leftovers are sent home with the teens to ensure no waste. The time involved in putting these classes together and orchestrating meals for everyone doesn't go unnoticed by the FFNC team. We want to especially thank our volunteers who lead these classes, NC Links and AlCo DSS, for allowing us to host these classes and to all of our benefactors. Without any of you, these classes or meals wouldn't be possible. 🌳

We love our partnership with Crossroads and supporting them in their efforts to help those who have survived sexual abuse. The youth they serve includes kids and teens in foster care who have unfortunately experienced this abuse, and so for that, we want to say Thank You for helping provide comfort, support, and help in a vulnerable time for them. We want to also say Thank You to everyone who donated books, attended our Spring Jubilee, and supported monetarily to Q1. Its #MissionMoment Monday, and we want to take the time to share about a special project we're working on in collaboration with Crossroads Sexual Assault Response and Resource Center. The cornerstone of our organization has always been to "bridge the gap" in resources, communication, and effort and sometimes that means "meeting" the teens where they're at no matter what. Our goal is to transform this part of the Crossroads HQ lobby into a designated space for the teens. We want to create a welcoming, safe, and calming space as teens embark or continue on with their healing journey. This project is one of those bridges. However, we need your help.
